Locality

The hill-top villages of Marvao and Castelo de Vide are only a few minutes drive from Porto da Espada, and the administrative and commercial town of Portalegre is close by. The popular river-beach and swimming pool complex at Portagem is just 5 mins drive away.  There is a daily bus service (Mon-Fri) directly from the village to Portalegre, and from Portagem there is a 7-day-a-week bus service to Lisbon.

Porto da Espada has a small bakery, two café/restaurants, and a very active social committee which organises several events during the year, where everyone is welcome to join in.

The Sao Mamede Park is an area of beautiful rolling hills and valleys, perfect for walking and bird-watching. It has dozens of white-washed villages with a slow, traditional way of life, but within just a few kilometres there is easy access, on good roads, to large towns/cities in both Portugal and Spain.
