The houses you see in these photos, on this south-facing property, are made of granite and schist. The were built over a hundred years ago – each to house a family and their livestock.
This is and ideal spot for a peaceful retreat, with access to the historic towns
and cities of northern Portugal as well as the nearby beaches of the Atlantic ocean.
The new plans for Casas de Insalde, which are partly featured here, are designed to restore the old buildings, using the existing stonework. This approach can, of course, be adapted or entirely reworked by the new owner.
THE GARDEN AND POOL
The terraced fields, which are a distinguishing feature, will have a swimming-pool directly at the centre of the property.
The shade provided by the trees throughout the landscape will offer peaceful places to sit, read, and relax.
OUTDOOR SPORTS AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
The historic Alto Minho region lies all around, with its tranquil landscape and long stretch of beautiful Atlantic coastline. Swimming, surfing, kayaking, hiking, and horse-riding are all close at hand. If history and tradition is of interest, Ponte de Lima and Viana do Castelo provide sightseeing opportunities as well as festivals and traditional gastronomy.
ACCESSIBLE…. AND YET AWAY FROM IT ALL
The nearby motorway network means that getting here – from Porto or Vigo airports – takes only an hour. Exploring Spain’s north-western region of Galicia is all too easy, including the famous Santiago de Compostela. In fact, the Portuguese ‘Camino’ weaves its way to Santiago not far from Casas de Insalde.
